One of the oldest houses inside the Fort, Palm Villa has been restored with care retaining the style and antiquities of the early 1700s. Reusing a lot of the original timber the house boasts high ceilings; four-poster beds; antique doors and furniture with polished white cement flooring that insists on a barefoot life.

Excursions Galle Fort is like no where else in Sri Lanka. Enter through the new English gate or the old Dutch gate and enter a different country. Renovated Dutch architecture of some of the 600 odd houses crowd the narrow streets in this 90-acre World Heritage Site. The Ramparts are used for romantic strolls as well as early morning power walks as well - of course - for local village cricket games. The Fort has a number of small beaches that are suitable for morning swims whilst the best sunbathing beaches are between 5-7kms away. Busy during the day but quiet at night, Galle Fort provides an exceptional and historic base from which to experience Sri Lanka. |
